description

Based on this discussion:

Suggestion is to create a new helper method to allow setting of common Task Manager options.

Well, this isn't going to be fun...

Adding the option to be "Always on Top" resulted in a huge REG_BINARY entry being added to the registry in this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TaskManager\Preferences

I will do some digging to see exactly what is required here. I have a feeling that this could take a while to piece together, unless anyone has a resource handy that has already worked this out?

was the entry completely new? I've seen this sometimes where each setting is represented by a single byte and it is a matter of diffing the entry before and after to see which byte controls a particular setting.

Hey,

Yes, this was a completely new key that was added yes. My concern was that of the three or four settings that I wanted to make available in Boxstarter, there are likely to be many other settings that are configured within the hexidecimal registry key.

Is it possible to set only one byte of a key? So far, in things like the Set-TaskbarOptions for setting the dock of the Taskbar, I have been writing the entire key.

Would it make sense to read the registry key first, change the byte of interest and then write it back? Assuming this is possible. That way, any other settings that are contained within the key won't be blown away by this change.
